Tuesday March 25, 2014 - 46 miles
Well, we made it down to the Mississippi River today, riding 46 miles along the Natchez Trace. The weather was a bit cooler this morning, only 36 degrees, so we slept in until almost 8:00.
Following Jim's advice, we all loaded into the van and drove to the Piggly Wiggly store for breakfast. I got a platter with scrambled eggs, grits, sausage, biscuit, yogurt, and OJ. We stopped at an Exxon station for coffee, then drove back to the hotel where we all enjoyed a hearty breakfast.

When we hit the road after eating breakfast, it had warmed up considerably. We also had a strong tailwind. The weather and scenery were spectacular today.

After about 20 miles, we pulled into a rest area to stretch. Traffic was light on this section of the Trace. As we were standing around, in comes a beautiful tandem rig pulling a trailer.

We got to meet John and Becky from Lafayette LA with their dog Boone. We had a great time talking with them, and just as they were telling us about a guy touring in an antique 1924 model T Ford they had camped with last night, in he comes, pulling a trailer.

The radiator ornament was set up to pee on people, using a hidden switch - how funny !!

Back on the bikes - only 22 miles to go !!

Our next rest stop was at an old section of the original Trace. There was a kiosk with historical info and a cemetary. I rode my bike on the original Trace, it was pretty cool !

As we were getting ready to leave, a family with 2 children came in on two tandems. They were from Minnesota and were veteran bicycle tourists, having ridden all over the world.

We finally arrived at the end of the Trace, then rode into Natchez and enjoyed a cold beer in our motel room. After cleaning up, we loaded into the van and drove downtown to eat dinner at a great pasta restaurant. We ended the day down by the Mississippi River, watching a beautiful sunset.
